Reasons to Use Organic Cloth Diapers

Greeno Bambino Calming Diaper Rash CreamA long time ago, the only option mothers had when it came to their baby’s diapers was cloth. Now, it is a lot harder to pick out which brand is the best for babies. Debates on disposables versus cloth came about and today, there are numerous mothers who choose green baby products and organic cloth diapers for babies.

Organic cloth is the best type of diapers a mother can buy for her child. One of the basic reasons that parents are going organic nowadays is because natural baby products means comfort for the baby. Mothers are tired of the rashes and other skin irritations that disposable diapers leave on their children. Cloth diapers rub less and remain more comfortable for toddlers as well.
The second reason is finances. Parents want to spend their time and money enjoying their children instead of making trips to purchase diapers on a regular basis. They don’t have to budget for diapers if they just buy it once and are all set. Families with more than one child also benefit the most because they can reuse the same diapers.

More chemicals and other substances are harming our children than ever before. Organic diapers are a healthier option and can reduce the risk of an allergic reaction. They are made with eco friendly products and are therefore a healthier option most especially for infants.

Instead of piling disposable diapers in our local landfill, we end up doing something positive for the world we all live in. Despite the type or style of diaper we decide to use, going with organic baby products will enhance our life considerably.

Heads Up on BPA

Non Toxic Sippy CupsBisphenol-A or BPA is a substance used in the production of polycarbonate plastics that has estrogenic properties. It has been proven through various test and research that BPA can cause a host of health problems. Manufacturers and parents start catching on to the idea that safer plastics and even non-plastic materials can be used to make attractive and durable bpa free baby bottles and non toxic sippy cups.

A lot of everyday products are made with chemicals that may disrupt people’s endocrine system. The problem is that many chemicals mimic hormones and they attach to receptors, causing cell division, altered gene expression and other harmful changes. Endocrine disruptors have been blamed for playing a role in autism, immune problems, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), diabetes, obesity, cancer, earlier puberty and infertility.

Most plastic baby bottles and sippy cups are made from BPA and these can also cause developmental problems to children. One idea that can keep babies and children away from BPA is breastfeeding, using glass bottles, or simply investing in non toxic sippy cups and bpa free baby bottles.

Why Use Organic Baby Shampoo and Soap

Organic Baby Shampoo

Two reasons why parents should let their children use organic baby shampoo and soap is one, the health of the child and two, because of the environment. Organic products are natural, therefore they do not have all the chemicals found in mass-produced skin care products that can cause skin irritation to children. Components of organic shampoo are found in plant-based renewable resources that are manufactured in a chemical-free environment.

The popularity of antibacterial soaps have skyrocketed in recent years though there has been a debate on how helpful it actually is. Some researchers say that these products have been contributing to the emergence of more skin irritations as well as drug-resistant superbugs. These agents are known to cause skin problems such as eczema and can increase dryness and roughness as well as kill off sensitive bacteria, leaving behind hardier strains such as E Coli and staphylococcus aureus that may live longer.
The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics (CSC) commissioned an independent laboratory to analyze the contents of 48 different baby products. The chemicals formaldehyde and 1,4 dioxane are the most common found in skin care products. Common ingredients likely to be contaminated with 1,4-dioxane include polyethylene, sodium laureth sulfate, PEG-100 stearate, and ceteareth-20.

Organic skin care and baby shampoo contains nothing but all natural ingredients and fragrances that have been recognized for generations as safe and effective personal care products.

Reasons to go Organic

I gave birth to my son exactly six months ago and being a first time mom, wanted to know what’s best for him. What I found out about none organic merchandises and what they can do appalled me. A study reported that babies can be exposed to toxic chemicals in ordinary personal care products like shampoos, lotions and diaper creams. Although the list of chemical ingredients in skin care manufacturing is extensive, the particular study focused on a reproductive toxin that can cause damage to sexual organs called phthalates. In addition to that, another study conducted by the Organic Consumers Association in March 2008 found 1,4 Dioxane, a cancer-causing chemical that is present in many personal care products.

In the light of the above, baby clothing companies now offer merchandises made from organically grown fibers, such as cotton, soy, wool or bamboo, thus creating green baby products. These have been produced without toxic fabric finishes and use of pesticides. These are just a few reasons why we, as parents should go organic for the safety of our children.

Natural baby products are made without harmful fertilizers, pesticides, growth hormones, additives, irradiation, sewage sludge, antibiotics or genetically modified organisms. Although these products may be more costly than conventional goods, the benefits are all worth it, especially when we want what’s best for our children. These eco friendly products are recommended by physicians for children until the age of three, because during this time, children’s bodies and brains grow faster and are vulnerable to environmental toxins. Aside from being free of additives, organic foods are believed to be more nutritional. According to a study confirmed in 2007, organic fruit and vegetables have up to 40 percent more antioxidants compared to non-organically grown produce.
